CELEBRATING THE CHAOS OF INDIVIDUALITY

I'm a Melbourne artist interested in people — what makes us different, what we borrow from each other, and the strange contradictions that make up a personality.

My work explores identity, individuality and culture through the collision of opposites — masculine and feminine, sacred and profane, order and chaos, reality and imagination.

At the centre of it all is people.

The personas we create. The things we inherit, discard, borrow and reinvent. The space between who we are, who we think we are, and who we might become.

THE WORK

My background is in design and creative direction, and that still sits underneath everything I make.

I'm drawn to graphic clarity, strong composition and visual language, but I'm equally interested in what happens when control gives way to instinct.

A work might begin with an idea, an image or a particular feeling, but the process is rarely entirely predictable. Fragments are cut apart, rearranged, discarded and rebuilt until something begins to emerge.

That tension between intention and accident is an important part of the work.

RAGAZZI

RAGAZZI grew out of my fascination with people.

I wanted to make portraits without starting with people who already existed.

Instead, I began with fragments — images, textures, expressions, colours and references — cutting them apart and putting them back together until a personality began to emerge.

I don't start with a person and try to capture them.

I start with fragments and see who appears.

The RAGAZZI sit somewhere between observation and imagination. They aren't portraits of specific people, but they're not entirely invented either.

Each one develops its own character, attitude and presence.

Together, they form a growing collection of personalities — different ways of being, seeing and moving through the world.
